Shitami-itabari siding on a mud & plaster walled kura (storehouse).
On a kura, the flat siding boards and vertical battens are secured with a removable length of timber (sangi = batten cleat) held by orekugi (thick iron hooks) embedded in the plaster wall. - Vertical battens seen here are oshibuchi (not cut to fit the overlapping boards).

-Thin siding boards of sugi (cryptomeria) protect the fire-resistant dokabe (wattle & daub) walls from rain and wind damage. -The siding boards are secured with vertical saobuchi (battens) for quick removal in the instance of fire. -SASARAKO-bari battens: cut to fit the board profile.
