-Thin siding boards of sugi (cryptomeria) protect the fire-resistant dokabe (wattle & daub) walls from rain and wind damage. -The siding boards are secured with vertical saobuchi (battens) for quick removal in the instance of fire. -SASARAKO-bari battens: cut to fit the board profile. OSHIBUCHI battens: not cut.
